Introduction to the Club

Join us at Gloucester Camera Club for the 2026-2027 season

The present club’s first meeting was held on 19th July 1944, so we have a long heritage of supporting photographic interests in the city to continue.

Our meetings are held on Tuesday evenings in the modern surroundings of Pineholt Village Hall.

We value the social aspects of the club, meeting friends and acquaintances to discuss our latest project or simply to meet other people with a shared interest and learn from each other.

There may be occasions when we have a guest presenter or event on-line, as this can give us a greater range of interests than are available locally. For these events, we project the content onto the big screen for members in the hall.

The ‘Image Appraisal’ evenings are an opportunity to present images for discussion and comment by other club members. These usually result in a wealth of hints, tips and discussion concerning image composition, lighting and photographic techniques. It’s a good way of learning the ways in which a photo can be made more interesting and satisfying.

On ‘Club Nights’, members are invited to talk about their interest in a specific photographic subject or technique.

‘Technical Evenings’ are where a club member or guest gives a presentation or practical demonstration on, for example, using photo processing apps or printing techniques.

Photographic competitions are held regularly. These are a great way to view and enjoy the work of club members and to perhaps share some of your own images. A nationally qualified judge will review and comment on the image’s photographic merits before awarding a score. As with the Image Appraisal evenings, its another way to learn how your images can be made more pleasing to the eye. Judges aim to be independent but are, of course, only one person’s opinion. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t agree with the judge, but they are always willing to answer your questions.

If you decide to enter any of our club competitions, please read the rules carefully and ask if anything is unclear. Any club member will direct you to someone who can advise or use the club’s email or contact form.

To ensure that our club remains inclusive for all levels of experience and budgets, we accept images taken on any kind of photographic device, such as a camera, phone, drone, action or trail cam or home-made device, in fact anything that will produce a pleasing image using electronic sensors or even film.

Note that the club belongs to its members and the management committee are all unpaid volunteers.
